Tegrity Student Survey

You are enrolled in a course that uses Tegrity course capture. We are interested in your opinions about Tegrity and invite you to participate in a research study conducted by Dr. Julia Hartman and Dr. Carmen Burkhalter from the University of Alabama College of Arts and Sciences. We hope to learn what effect Tegrity has had on your study habits and your performance in this course. The results of the study will be used to evaluate the impact of Tegrity use on student performance, including study habits and grades, and student opinions about Tegrity.

Because the study concerns the impact of Tegrity on student performance, if you decide to participate, you will be giving permission for your instructor to provide the researchers with access to certain information related to your performance in the class. This information includes your scores and grades in the class and information related to your use of Tegrity. Participation also requires that you complete a short web-based survey about your use of Tegrity. The survey should take about five (5) minutes to complete. Although we will ask for your name and Bama id, we will delete all identifying information as soon as your survey and performance data have been matched.

If you choose to participate and complete the survey, you will have a chance to enter a drawing to qualify for a free video iPod or $250 book scholarship. To have a chance to qualify, you will be directed to a page on a different website where you will enter your contact information. That information will not be associated with your grades or with your responses to the survey. If you are selected, you will be required to correctly answer three (3) questions related to the use of Tegrity.

There is no risk involved with your participation in this research. Your responses to the survey will be completely confidential, and your instructor will have access only to the results of the class as a whole, not to any individual data. All data will be securely stored on a computer in the Office of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Participation in the research is voluntary, and refusal to participate will involve no penalty and will have no effect on your grade in the class. If you decide to participate, you will follow the link below to the web-based survey. Following that link will also mean that you have given your instructor permission to provide the researchers with access to your grades and other information related to your performance in the class. If you decide to participate, you are free to withdraw your consent and discontinue participation at any time without penalty.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Dr. Julia Hartman at 205-348-4832 or jhartman@as.ua.edu. If you have any questions about your rights as a research participant you may contact Ms. Tanta Myles, The University of Alabama Research Compliance Officer, at 205-348-5152
